COLTBRIDGE BOWLERS NEWS

THE WAITING IS ALMOST OVER !

The 2026 season is about to start! The membership renewal evening will be held on the 7th April at the club from 7 - 8.30pm (the bar will be open) or if you prefer, download your renewal form  (see download below) and transfer your subs direct to the club’s account.

The opening day competition will be held on the 11th of April (weather permitting) We will be taking a group photograph before we start playing at 2pm.  After the game there will be a buffet and time to socialise with other members. There is a notice on the board about this.  If you wish to attend please add your name or let us know via the club WhatsApp group.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS AT THE CLUB

Over the winter period club volunteers have been busy and led by Alan some major projects have been undertaken. The largest being the refurbishment of the ladies toilet facilities with a massive amount of work carried out by Alan Beattie and John Glen. If you’ve not seen the toilet yet ladies you’re in for a big surprise!

Another large project was erecting electric fencing around the green to deter Mr Fox who has been coming onto the green and digging holes in it! Don’t worry the fence will not be live during the day.  It’s on a timer and it will only be working overnight.  However, this does mean that you must enter and leave the green by the proper entrance areas at all times.

FIRE SAFETY AT THE CLUB

The club has under gone a major review of our fire safety precautions led by Tom Hogg who has now joined our committee. Tom is implementing a wide variety of actions which will include regular fire drills and some changes in the way that we use the clubrooms.  The changes will be advised in due course.

DEFIBRILLATOR TRAINING

Members will remember that a couple of years ago we installed a defibrillator which we are glad to say has never been used. Some of us may be a bit rusty on how to actually use the machine and although it is user friendly and training is not necessarily required, the committee is looking into holding another training session. In the meantime, we suggest members visit this YouTube video which explains in detail how to use the machine.

LET'S ATTRACT NEW MEMBERS !

This year we are trying very hard to attract new members to the club. The sad news that Beechwood Bowling club is closing has brought us a few enquiries and some of the Beechwood bowlers have already signed up.  However, we would also like to attract new members from the local community. To this end we are carrying out a social media campaign over the next few weeks and leaflets will also be distributed to houses and businesses around the Roseburn and Murrayfield area. We have plenty of leaflets available, if you’d like to get some and pass them round your own neighbours just let Derek know.

AND FINALLY

We would remind members that there is a suggestion / comments book located on the bookshelf in the entrance hallway and if you have any ideas or constructive criticism that might benefit the club we would love to hear from you.

This season we will be announcing the dates of our committee meetings to give members an opportunity to raise any points which they would like to be discussed with a committee member in advance of the meeting.

Regarding the 100 club. Each number costs £30 - just indicate how many numbers you want on the subscription renewal form and add the cost to your subscription. We are proposing to change the prize from one to three. One main price hopefully £40 or more and two consolation prizes of hopefully £10 or more depending on how many participants there are.

As always, it is vital that members help with the upkeep of the club  house and surrounding gardens.  The old saying, many hands make light work is certainly applicable and will help to spread the load.  If you can spare some time to help with any aspect please let Alan or Elizabeth know that you are up for some volunteering
